Newark police station could be adapted to host another emergency service

Plans have been submitted which could see a Nottinghamshire town’s police station and ambulance station under the same roof. A planning application has been submitted requesting for a partial change of use to part of Newark Police station to allow for a new ambulance station.

The building on Queen’s Road is currently used as a Police station with vehicle parking and an ancillary building, but East Midlands Ambulance Service purchased 1500sqm at the rear of the building, including the ancillary building and areas for parking. Currently the ambulance service use premises on the opposite side of road, but it is intended that this site will be replaced by the proposed site.

The application proposes that new openings be formed in the masonry wall, and for new doors, floor finishes and stud partitions to be installed in the building to the rear of the Police Station. A parking survey has found that at peak capacity the police station uses 56 of the site’s 79 on site car parking spaces, and it has been proposed that the ambulance occupy 29 of the spaces, leaving the police with 50. The submitted plans also propose the site will have 26 employees working full time, and 8 part time.
