Newark General Election 2019 results - Conservatives increase their majority

Robert Jenrick has been returned as the MP for Newark after the Conservatives increased their majority in the constituency.

The Conservatives have won every election bar one in Newark since 1979, losing it briefly to Labour in 1997 then regaining it in 2001.

More than 60% of the constituency voted to Leave, and the Conservatives held a majority of 18,149 at the last election. This made it the second-safest seat in the county, behind Nottingham East.

That majority has now been extended to 21,816.

Geographically, it's by far the largest constituency in the county, stretching from south of Nottingham to north of Worksop.

The full result:

James Baggaley, Labour: 12,844

Jay Henderson, Green Party: 1,950

Robert Jenrick, Conservative: 34,660

David Watts, Liberal Democrat: 5,308
