New Zealand vs Ireland player ratings: Beauden Barrett man of the match in Rugby World Cup 2019 win

New Zealand thrashed Ireland in Tokyo and will play England in the Rugby World Cup 2019 semi-finals.

Ireland saw both Garry Ringrose and Robbie Henshaw go off to have blood injuries treated within the first few minutes as New Zealand took an early lead through a Richie Mo'unga penalty. Further All Blacks pressure then told twice in the space of five minutes as scrum-half Aaron Smith spotted gaps that only he could fit through to put his side 17-0 up after the first quarter with a deadly double.

It had been a nightmare start for Schmidt's men and it got even worse on 32 minutes as Beauden Barrett showed some tidy ball skills when he chased his own kick through from a Johnny Sexton spill to score New Zealand's third try.

All hope was gone for Ireland just seven minutes after the restart as Codie Taylor flopped over the line following a sublime Kieran Read offload, while Dane Coles added to the misery as he bundled over on the hour mark as New Zealand stretched 34-0 ahead. But Ireland avoided becoming the first team in World Cup history to fail to score in a quarter-final when Robbie Henshaw scored a late consolation.

It was never anything more than that, however, with George Bridge adding New Zealand's sixth try shortly after.
