New Zealand to shift visitor visa applications online from September 24

New Zealand will move most visitor visa applications to its enhanced Immigration Online system from September 24, 2026, according to Immigration New Zealand (INZ). New applications for affected visitor visa categories will no longer be accepted through the old online platform.

INZ has been moving visa categories to the enhanced system since 2021, with Group and Tour Escort visitor visa applications set to move from August 24.

Applicants who have already created a draft application in the old system can complete and submit it there. However, they must do so before the old application forms close on October 8. Any remaining draft applications will be deleted after that date, and applicants will have to start a new application through enhanced Immigration Online.

Submitted applications in the old system will not be affected. Applicants will continue to be able to upload documents and respond to requests from INZ until their applications are decided and the decision is communicated.

Following visas are not affected

The September change does not affect Partner and Child of Military Visitor Visas, Partner and Child of Student Visitor Visas, and Partner and Child of Worker Visitor Visas as these categories moved to the enhanced system in June 2026.

Applications for the Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa and Child of a New Zealander Visitor Visa will continue to be available through the old system until INZ moves them to enhanced Immigration Online.
