The poignant moment New Zealand’s prime minister hugged a grieving woman after the Christchurch mosque attacks has inspired a huge mural.
Loretta Lizzio created the painting of Jacinda Ardern on the side of a 25 metre tall silo in Brunswick, Australia.
Her work "celebrates a moment of unity and compassion”, Ms Lizzio told 7 news.
The image of Ms Ardern hugging a mourner as she visited the site of the massacres touched hearts around the globe.
51 people were killed in the terror attack at the mosques in Christchurch.
More than 11,000 Australian Dollars were raised to fund the project in the suburb on the edge of Melbourne.
Those behind the GoFundMe wrote: “The image of Jacinda hugging a muslim woman has become a beacon of tolerance, love and peace in these divisive times.
“We want this message, this moment in time, remembered. We want to learn from it, we want it to hold us up, to strengthen us. We want everyone to know we are them, that they are us and, that we are, and always will be, stronger together.”
However, some rallied against the painting with nearly 15,000 people signing a petition for it not to be put up.
They said they wanted something “Melbourne related instead”.
Since it was unveiled some have argued the money to fund it could have been spent on other issues such as homelessness.
