New Zealand national newspaper prints blank black front page after World Cup loss to England

They haven't taken it well down in New Zealand.

The country's national newspaper's front page on Sunday said it all.

The New Zealand Herald printed a black front page with the sole sentence: "The All Blacks are out of the World Cup. If you want to read more go to the sport section."

New Zealand suffered their first Rugby World Cup defeat in 12 years as they were defeated by a dominant England side in the semi-finals in Yokohama.

The All Blacks missed out on a chance of winning a third consecutive World Cup as Eddie Jones' men produced a near-complete performance to inflict a first defeat at the tournament for the Kiwis in 18 matches.

Dylan Cleaver, writing in the New Zealand Herald said: "It stings a little bit, like undiluted Dettol on an open sore. The fact that it's an England side coached by an Australian makes it worse, no doubt.

"Salty, even. But it's the end of the World Cup, not the world.

"Let's give magnanimity a go – we haven't tried it in this situation for a while (since 1995 probably, and even that was tempered by the enigma of Susie the Waitress).

"You sense this is rugby's next great rivalry. It's about time that England came to the party with all their resources and bluster.

"Not that it will give New Zealanders much solace right now."
