New Zealand boss Ian Foster cuts short Welsh trip and pulls out of rugby event over coronavirus

All Blacks boss Ian Foster is leaving Wales ahead of schedule.... just hours before he was due to be the guest of honour at a Scarlets function.

The newly-appointed New Zealand head coach was due to join Brad Mooar tonight to launch the Scarlets Community Foundation, the newly-formed charity arm of the west Wales region.

Moaar, who will link up with the All Blacks management team in the summer, and Foster were to take part in a question and answer session at the Parc y Scarlets event, hosted by former Welsh international scrum-half Rupert Moon.

However, due to the tightening of travel restrictions over the coronavirus pandemic, the Scarlets have announced on their social media account Foster is heading home early from his stay in Wales.

The event is still going ahead without the All Blacks supremo.

A statement from the region read: "Due to restrictions that have been imposed on international travel to combat the spread of coronavirus, Ian Foster is returning home to New Zealand this afternoon and will be unable to attend this evening’s Scarlets Community Foundation launch at Parc y Scarlets.

"The evening, which will be raising funds for the Foundation, is still going ahead, with Scarlets head coach Brad Mooar to be joined by players Rhys Patchell, Steff Hughes and president Phil Bennett for a question and answer session."
