The New York Times is to reduce its page size, making the paper narrower by one and a half inches. The shrinkage, which won't happen until April 2008, will be accompanied by a redesign. This is revolutionary stuff for the Grey Lady, and a sign of its need to cut costs. It is also planning to close a printing plant which will mean the loss of 250 production-related jobs. But a separate Reuters report, also attributed to the New York Times, claimed there would be a loss of 1,050 jobs. (Via nytimes.com)
