New York Times endorses Clinton for president

WASHINGTON The New York Times endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, saying the Democrat's "record of service and a raft of pragmatic ideas" represent the best choice to tackle the challenges the U.S. faces.

"Running down the other guy won't suffice to make that argument. The best case for Hillary Clinton cannot be, and is not, that she isn't Donald Trump," the newspaper said in an editorial that will run in Sunday's newspaper.

Clinton's "occasional missteps" have distorted perceptions of her character and her status as "one of the most tenacious politicians of her generation," the newspaper said of the former secretary of state and U.S. senator from New York.

In contrast, the Times said, Republican nominee Trump "discloses nothing concrete about himself or his plans while promising the moon and offering the stars on layaway."
