New York's Spanish papers may merge

There are growing rumours that New York's two main Spanish-language newspapers are about to merge. It is expected that the troubled Tribune Co could likely sell its title, Hoy, to Impremedia which owns El Diario. Both papers compete for readers but Hoy is distributed free - after a series of circulation scandals - while El Diario is a paid-for. Merger rumours have come and gone for several years.
