Leaving New York just got a little bit more fun.

As of Thursday, January 13,  Amtrak passengers can now enjoy bar service at Amtrak’s premium Metropolitan Lounge in the Moynihan Train Hall in New York City. The new bar menu offers beer, wine and cocktails for purchase between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. As a nod to the more than 400 breweries in New York state (many of which are accessible via train travel), the menu features rotating seasonal selections from local breweries including Five Boroughs Brewing, Brooklyn Brewery, Ithaca Beer Company, Empire Brewing Company and Montauk Brewing Company.

“We are delighted to introduce this new amenity to our customers traveling in and out of New York City; it is another example of Amtrak’s commitment to continually evaluate and improve the customer experience,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer Roger Harris. “Customers who want to have a drink and relax before or after their train can now do so from the comforts of our flagship lounge.”

And to pair with the new alcoholic beverages, free snacks!  Lounge guests can complimentary pastries, yogurt parfaits, fruit, salads, sandwiches, and La Colombe specialty coffee (i.e., espresso, lattes, americanos, etc.) throughout the day, plus hot food for purchase.

The Metropolitan Lounge boasts unique finishes, furnishings, décor and features, including a grand entry and reception with a welcome desk and luxurious customer seating, various seating neighborhoods for solo, group or family lounging, luggage storage lockers, integrated power and USB access at most seats, a business center, private restrooms, a nursing room, train information boards, a family area, and an expansive balcony with café-style seating overlooking the rest of the Train Hall.

New food and beverage options at the Metropolitan Lounge Amtrak

Because we’re still living in a pandemic, Amtrak is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy dining environment. All pre-packed consumable items are served by an attendant behind the service counter. Every guest 12 and older is required to show proof they have received two vaccine doses, except for those who received the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Starting on January 28, 2022, children 5 to 11 must also show proof of full vaccination.

The lounge is available for Amtrak Guest Rewards Select Executive and Select Plus members, Acela First Class and private room customers and Single-Day Pass holders, with same-day reservations. Amtrak Business Class passengers can also buy day passes for $50.

The Metropolitan Lounge is open Monday to Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to. 9:00 p.m.
