New York's Larry McCarthy officially enters race to be come GAA president

New York official Larry McCarthy has officially entered the race to become the next GAA president.

The Cork native has been nominated by the New York county board, who he has served as both chairman and secretary, while he is currently a member of the GAA’s high-powered Management Committee, the first overseas official to achieve that distinction, as well as previously sitting on Central Council.

He also sat on the Strategic Review Committee last year under the chairmanship of current GAA president John Horan.

A long-time US resident and a member of the Sligo club in New York, McCarthy is an associate professor of management at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, specialising in sport marketing.

The Bishopstown man is the fourth candidate to enter the race after Jerry O’Sullivan (Cork), Mick Rock (Roscommon) and Jarlath Burns (Armagh).

The election of the next president will take place at GAA Congress next February, with the winner taking office 12 months later.
