New York Public Radio Hosts Leonard Lopate and Jonathan Schwartz fired over 'inappropriate conduct'

Leonard Lopate and Jonathan Schwartz are going off-air for good.

Two weeks after the duo were suspended pending investigation, WNYC announced that the pair have been fired from New York Public Radio.

Lopate hosted the Leonard Lopate Show for 32 years. Schwartz hosted The Jonathan Channel and also had a weekly music show on Sundays.

According to the outlet, two separate outside investigations found that both Lopate and Schwartz acted in a way that directly violated NYPR's "standards for providing an inclusive, appropriate, and respectful work environment."

In both investigations, several witnesses, as well as Lopate and Schwartz themselves, were interviewed.

NYPR suspended the well-known radio hosts on Dec. 6 on the grounds that the pair were believed to have engaged in "inappropriate conduct."

It's unclear what that entailed.

Speaking with WNYC early this week, Schwartz called the allegations "hurtful," among other things.

"This episode in my life truly is the most hurtful, outrageous and saddest I've ever experienced _ and more," he said.

Lopate told the publication he was "stunned" by the allegations against him.

He previously told WNYC he was innocent.

"I have done nothing wrong, and I am really sad that my reputation may be damaged, despite the fact that I have not done anything that I know of that could have led to this situation," he told WNYC.
