New York Jets stars burn 'cheesehead' as they prepare to welcome Aaron Rodgers

The cheesehead worn by Sauce Gardner to taunt the Green Bay Packers last season has now been burnt by the New York Jets star, as he prepares to team-up with Aaron Rodgers.

Jets stars Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson joined Gardner as a fire was burning, and the trio all discussed how they'd feel with Rodgers joining their offensive line. Following reports that Rodgers had met with Jets officials on Tuesday both Hall and Gardner both tweeted out messages of excitement, and they've now gone one step further.

Gardner tweeted out earlier this week: "Aye @AaronRodgers12 I promise if you become a Jet, I won’t pick you off in practice and I’ll burn the cheesehead." Many fans thought it was a joke, but he's already followed through with his promise.

The cheesehead worn as the Jets beat the Packers last season was in the hands of Gardner, and collectively they burnt it as speculation over Rodgers heightens. The Jets have been chasing a "veteran quarterback" this off-season, and it looks like they may finally be closing in on the Packers star.

Before burning the iconic Packers merch, Gardner asked Hall how he'd feel if Rodgers was on their offensive side. "They're going to open it up for me, they'll be scared and handing off the ball to me will be smooth! Super Bowl easy," Hall said.

And Wilson was equally as excited, as he added: "I just know it's going to be precise. That's the main thing I think about when I think about A Rod."

The stunt clearly shows that the Jets trio are confident that a deal for Rodgers can be completed, and the franchise have already been making roster alterations to prepare for the quarterback. Wide receiver Braxton Berrios was released by the organisation on Thursday and C.J. Uzomah's deal was restructured.

More space needs to be cleared for the Rodgers deal to work, but the Jets are doing all that they can to be in a position to trigger the blockbuster trade, and they're not hanging about. The Jets have been linked with Rodgers for some time, but on Monday speculation heightened as the quarterback declared he was 'open' to joining the franchise.

Jets officials met with Rodgers on Tuesday after being given the green light by the Packers, and it's thought that those discussions went well. The Jets still need to negotiate with the Packers, but it's looking more likely that Rodgers won't be returning to Lambeau Field for the 2023 season.
