New York Jets arrange joint practice sessions for first glimpse of Aaron Rodgers in action

The New York Jets will take part in practice sessions with another NFL team during their pre-season schedule.

Aaron Rodgers made the switch to the Jets after a trade from the Green Bay Packers just days before the 2023 NFL Draft. The Packers received some draft picks in return for their star quarterback who had been on their roster since 2005.

One of those included a conditional second round pick in 2024. This will turn into a first round pick if Rodgers takes part in 65 per cent of the Jet’s offensive snaps during the 2023 season.

Rodgers will be the new starting QB for the Jets going into the 2023 season. The AFC East team will likely have Zach Wilson in reserve, with the duo working alongside each other during the off-season.

Part of that programme will be the pre-season schedule that will be coming up in July. That will see the Jets face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a pre-season game on August 19 at the MetLife Stadium.

Now, a fresh report from the Tampa Bay Times has stated that both the Jets and the Buccaneers will be taking part in two joint-practice sessions. It’s reported that these will take place at the practice facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.

It has not yet been confirmed, though, when these sessions will take place. But the report adds that it’s likely the sessions will be held on August 16 and 17.

The game against the Bucs is just one of four pre-season matches that the Jets will play. Their other opponents will be the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants, before taking on the Buffalo Bills in their regular season opener.

For the Bucs, they will play just three pre-season games, including their away game at the Jets. Their other opponents include home games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens, before travelling to face the Minnesota Vikings in their Week One match in September.

Rodgers revealed earlier this week that he had “tweaked” his calf during a Jets OTA. The quarterback did say, though, that he did not think that the issue was serious.

“I just tweaked my calf in pre-practice conditioning and decided to take a vet day,' Rodgers told reporters in a post-practice press conference. “I don't think it's too serious.”

The Jets and the Bucs will have just a few more OTAs remaining before they have a small break. Mandatory minicamps will see the rosters return next month, where it will see every contracted player in the NFL feature for their respective teams.
