New York high school softball pitcher hurls perfect perfect game with 21 Ks

A New York high school softball pitcher completed one of the most elite feats in scholastic sports, striking out all 21 batters she faced in a “perfect perfect game.”

As noted by the New York State Sportswriter’s Association, Mahopac (N.Y.) High School sophomore Shannon Becker twirled seven innings of no-hit softball where she struck out all 21 batters she faced.

“To get 21 straight strikeouts, it’s something you don’t see in a lifetime,” Mahopac coach Cristina Giansante told the NYSSA. “I don’t think people that are outside the softball world or the baseball world understand the magnitude of that.”

Incredibly, following the perfect perfect game, Becker had a streak of 39 consecutive strikeouts, and a total of 249 in just 14 starts, an average of nearly 18 per game.

And, as if there was any question about the sheer wonder of the 21 strikeouts, here’s what it looks like when you fan every batter you face:

Becker’s strikeout streak was the highest drama on the day, as Mahopac rolled to an 8-0 win against Carmel (N.Y.) High School. Still, with the chance to see an all-strikeout perfecto, that proved to be plenty dramatic in itself.
Correction: A previous version of this story referred to Mahopac as a school from Long Island.
