New York Fashion Week gives a hint towards summer 2021

During what is usually the beginning of the fashion month roundabout for the industry's army of editors, influencers and insiders, this year brands are being forced to go back to the drawing board.

New York Fashion Week, which is the first instalment of the month-long cycle, kicked off on Friday and will end on Wednesday, ahead of London, which begins this Friday.

So far, the American city has hosted Jason Wu, who staged a socially distanced catwalk last night on the rooftop of Spring Studios.

The Taiwanese-Canadian designer sent 35 looks for spring 2021 down the runway, marking the first showcase of his contemporary-priced line, meaning it is more affordable than his luxury offering. Indya Moore, the star of Netflix drama Pose and an LGBTQ+ activist, was among the models who walked for Wu.

The pandemic meant the show had no A-list stars watching and the front row was spaced out along the catwalk.

Still to come on the agenda is Katie Holmes-approved Khaite, sustainable pioneers Veronica Beard and Collina Strada, while Tom Ford will close proceedings on Wednesday evening.

Missing from the schedule are Coach and Michael Kors, who will show their collections later in the year, as well as other New York Fashion Week stalwarts Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and The Row, who are yet to announce their plans for their spring collections.
