The number of coronavirus deaths in New York has hit nearly 3,000 as Governor Andrew Cuomo warned "people will die" as a result of ventilator shortages.
The death toll is currently 2,935 yesterday, with an extra 397 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours - a record daily rise.
There are a total of 102,863 cases across the state.
New York has become a hotspot for the spread of the virus in America, with Governor Cuomo urging medics across the country to come and offer their help if able to do so.
Cuomo said nearly all hospitals in the city have become ICU centres for coronavirus patients.
He also announced he has issued an order for the National Guard to remove ventilators from private hospitals and institutions in order to redeploy them to help COVID-19 patients.

In his latest address he said he spoke of the need to remember a motto of America's Founding Father's - "out of many one " - before going on to talk about the collaborative efforts needed to tackle the crisis across the state.
He said: "It was good advice then and it's even better advice today.
"The curve continues to go up - the number of tests has reached new highs - over 21,000 - and thank you to our great health department.
"We have over 10,000 new cases - 102,000 have testes positive.
"The number of deaths is the highest single increase in the number of deaths since we started."

Cuomo spoke of a record high in the number of people being admitted to hospital.
He said: "Total hospitalisation is at 14,000 - that's a new high."
The Governor also issued a stark warning to institutions, some private, who were unwilling to give up their ventilators to help during the crisis - even when not being used.
He said: "Even if they are not using them, they are reluctant to see them go out the door.
"I am not going to get into a situation where we are running out of ventilators and there are people dying because of no ventilators and there are hospitals in other parts of the state that have ventilators they are not using.
"I am not going to allow us to get there.
"I am signing an executive order to say the state can take ventilators and PPE and redeploy them to the hospitals that do need them."
Cuomo said the hospitals will be reimbursed for losing a machine, or will have it given back when no longer needed.
He added: "I can't do anything more than that. I am not going to be in a position were people are dying and we have several hundred ventilators in our own state."
He also urged companies to help make vital PPE needed for frontline staff to treat coronavirus patients.
