A new articulated bus began running along the bayside area of Yokohama on Thursday that can transport 1.6 times the number of passengers of a regular bus.
Dubbed the Bayside Blue, the bus consists of two cars connected in the middle to make an 18-meter-long vehicle that can seat 113 passengers. Four of these articulated buses will run along the route.
The increase in capacity will help more tourists travel around the Yokohama bay area.
The new buses were scheduled to start operation in June, but the coronavirus pushed the beginning date back. A ceremony was held Wednesday by the Yokohama City Transportation Bureau in the city's Naka Ward.
