New Years Day 'hit and run' in Wishaw sees police lock down street

A Lanarkshire road was closed off on New Years Days after reports of a hit and run.

Emergency services raced to Alexander Street in Wishaw at around 9.30pm last night.

Locals say cops immediately closed the street off and part of the road remain closed this morning.

One woman said: "Road police tapped off at the roundabout just after Wishaw General Hospital.

"Apparently there was a hit and run."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers were called to Alexander Street in Wishaw around 9.30pm on Wednesday 1 January 2020 following a report of a serious road crash involving a car and a pedestrian. Enquiries are ongoing."

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
