
Employees of the Ihara Suisan seafood processing company in Rumoi, Hokkaido, sort pieces of salted herring roe, a colorful and auspicious element of osechi Japanese New Year meals, on Nov. 18. About 50 employees were busy sorting the salted roe, now at the peak of production, according to color, weight and size, and carefully packing the pieces lined up in boxes.
