The Government has announced that no further Covid 19 restrictions will be put in place before the New Year.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid has confirmed take that the Government will not impose any further restrictions before January.

This will give businesses across the country some security knowing that New Year's Eve plans have been given the go-ahead.

One Bristol business mocked Boris Johnson last week by posting unknown opening hours for the pub in the build-up to the New Year.

The Government has yet to rule out whether new restrictions will be put in place in January with Javid adding they "will see then" whether they need to take further measures.

Mr Javid said: "Of course we look at the data on a daily basis, that hasn't changed over the Christmas period, but there will be no further measures before the New Year.

"We won't be taking any further measures. Of course, people should remain cautious as we approach New Year's celebrations, and you know, take a lateral flow test if that makes sense.

"Celebrate outside if you can, have some ventilation indoors if you can, please remain cautious.

"And when we get into the New Year, of course, we will see then whether we do need to take any further measures - but nothing more until then at least."

It follows on from England recording a record number of coronavirus cases on December 25.

The Bristol region also recorded over 3,500 new cases in the three-day period since December 24 as coronavirus data updated for the first time since Christmas.
