An emerging Paisley musician is set to headline a special gig for charity.
Award-winning singer-songwriter Kitti will be taking to the stage in Glasgow later this month for Karen’s Music Lounge with her jazz infused RnB and soul music.
Kitti, real name Katie Doyle, is quickly establishing herself as one to watch, having won best vocalist at the Scottish Jazz Awards and best female breakthrough artist at the Scottish Music Awards.
The former St Andrew’s Academy pupil will be performing at Glasgow’s Room 2 on Sunday, January 29 which will celebrate new talent, as well as bringing together two charities; MCR Pathways and The Sound Lab.
MCR Pathways is a national mentoring programme and its vision is that every care-experienced young person, or those who have experienced disadvantage, gets the same education and career opportunities and life chances as every other young person.
The Sound Lab helps young people to fulfil their creative potential through free music, media, digital and arts tuition.
The event is being organised in memory of Karen Kaye, from Shawlands, Glasgow, who passed away in September 2021 – one year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Devoted husband, dad and grandpa David Kaye is the organiser of the event. He said: “Karen, who was 64 years young, passed away in September 2021, just over a year ago.
“Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour the year before. She caught covid very badly in the middle of her treatment and was on a ventilator for four weeks.
“Karen always supported young people through her business Nailzone, which was Glasgow’s premier nail salon for over 20 years.
“We were devastated to lose her last September and wanted to create something special to honour her memory as well as supporting new musical talent.
“Music is very important in our lives and Karen’s Music Lounge will be a great tribute to a wonderful lady.”
Kitti said: ”I’m thrilled to be taking part in this special event and it’s something to look forward to in January!”
Joining Kitti in performing on the night will be Glasgow DJ and producer Rebecca Vasmant, North Ayrshire musician Josh Maguire and Paige, a budding performer and singer with hopes to attend the Royal Conservatoire in the future.
The event is being hosted by music lover and former Xfm DJ Heather Suttie. Tickets are £3, there’s a charity raffle and the event is on from 7pm to 10pm at Room 2, 69 Mandela Place, Glasgow.
