David Beckham has once again been 'snubbed' for a knighthood on the New Year Honours list.
The former England footballer, 45, had been a favourite to pick up a title last year, given his service to the sport and various charities, but has been passed over once again.
David's name was famously missing from the list in 2017 amid scrutiny over his investments in a tax avoidance scheme.
It's been suggested that the star went on to pay a reported £12.7 million in tax the following year, which placed him and wife Victoria among the country's 50 biggest tax payers.
While David did not feature, a number of sports stars made the star-studded New Year Honours list for 2021, which saw more than 1,200 people recognised for their contributions to public life.
Seven-time Formula One winner Lewis Hamilton was given a knighthood after he was previously overlooked, reportedly due to his tax affairs.
His honour comes after a campaign by Motorsport UK, with chairman David Richards saying the driver’s tax status had been “totally misunderstood”.
While football legend Jimmy Greaves, 80, and his fellow 1966 World Cup squad member Ron Flowers, 86, will be made MBEs.
Rugby League star Rob Burrow also receives an MBE for his campaigning around motor neurone disease after being diagnosed with the terminal illness.
In 2013 leaked emails revealed just how much Beckham was hoping to get knighted in the annual Honours List.
The former Manchester United star was said to be furious after being snubbed back in 2013, and wrote a series of angry rants to his long-time PR man Simon Oliveira.
In the notes, it was suggested that Becks felt his charity work and help bringing the Olympic Games to London should have made him a shoo-in for the gong.
Beckham, who was made an OBE in 2003, wrote: “I expected nothing less.
"It’s a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of got something like this 10 years ago.”
He was also alleged to have written, “unless it is a knighthood, f*** off”.
