Parts of the world have begun ushering in the New Year with spectacular fireworks displays.
More than a million people descended on a hazy Sydney Harbour for the controversial midnight display which had been granted an exemption to a total fireworks ban amid devastating bushfires.
In Auckland, half a ton of fireworks burst from the Sky Tower above the city centre as New Zealanders saw in 2020.
Samoa and the tiny Pacific island of Kiribati have also celebrated the start of the new decade.
