New World Rugby rankings table sees Wales below France, England and Ireland despite topping Six Nations table

Wales have dropped to sixth in the World Rugby rankings following their defeat to France on Saturday.

Despite still being in a strong position to win the Six Nations after agonisingly missing out on the Grand Slam, Wayne Pivac’s side are below three other championship sides with the standings updated after Super Saturday.

Ireland’s impressive 32-18 win over England in Dublin saw them rise above Wales into fifth.

France have climbed up to third thanks to Brice Dulin’s late try at the Stade de France that kept their title hopes alive with a rearranged game against Scotland to play on Friday night.

Had Wales held on, they would have moved into fourth having been ninth before the first round back in February.

England, who were the second best team in the world before the competition began, dropped to fourth after a fifth place finish.

It all means Wales are almost certain to finish the Six Nations behind three of their rivals even if they win the tournament, unless Scotland beat France by more than 15 points.

Scotland remain ninth after their record-breaking victory over Italy, who stay in 15 th spot.
