New World Rugby rankings table published as Wales surge and England fall

Wales have climbed two places to fifth in the World Rugby rankings following their stunning Six Nations win over England.

Tries from Josh Adams, Liam Williams, Kieran Hardy and Cory Hill saw Wales seal the Triple Crown at the Principality Stadium and move top of the table with three wins out of three.

Wayne Pivac’s side have risen two places in the latest standings that have been released today, leapfrogging Australia and Ireland.

England have dropped another place to fourth after their second defeat in the tournament, with France moving above them despite the postponement of their match against Scotland.

Wales, who started the tournament ranked ninth, could climb into the top four if, as expected, they beat Italy in the next round on March 13 to remain on course for the Grand Slam, and England lose to France on the same day.

Ireland have slipped down a place to seventh despite thrashing Italy 48-10 in Rome.

Meanwhile, a 30 th successive defeat in the tournament for Italy saw them drop below Samoa to 15 th .
