New World Rugby rankings published as England and Ireland rise but Wales don't

Wales remain fifth in the World Rugby rankings despite victory over Italy seeing them close in on the Six Nations title with a Grand Slam in sight.

The standings have been updated after the latest weekend of Six Nations action with England climbing above France to move back up to third following their Le Crunch triumph on Saturday.

Wales could have gone above England had France claimed a handsome victory at Twickenham, but instead it was the hosts that clinched a thrilling contest 23-20.

Wayne Pivac’s side would move into the top four though if they can beat France in Paris on Saturday, while they could rise to third if England lose to Ireland as well – but only if one of those is by a margin greater than 15 points.

Ireland’s win over Scotland at Murrayfield yesterday saw them climb over Australia into sixth, while pushing their hosts down a place to ninth in the process.

Italy remain 15 th after their wooden spoon was confirmed.
