New West Lothian housing development on site of former Bangour Village Hospital moves a step closer

A new housing development at Bangour is another step closer.

The go-ahead has been given for infrastructure and enabling works including the formation of roundabouts, access works, a cycleway, footpaths, car parking and landscaping at the former Bangour Village Hospital in Dechmont.

The work is required to facilitate the redevelopment of the site of the former hospital, which is identified as a development site in West Lothian’s Local Development Plan. A mixture of new build housing, renovation and conversion of listed buildings and supporting development is envisaged by the applicants and an application for the whole site, giving details of the proposal, is expected to be lodged with the council shortly.

The site owners and applicants are Allanwater Bangour and Ambassador Group.

The main part of this application involves work to the existing main entrance of the site with is proposed to remain the principle entrance of the redeveloped site.

A new roundabout is proposed on the A89 and has now been granted planning permission.

Councillor Charles Kennedy, chair of the council’s Development and Management Committee, which granted permission, said: The proposed works will create an improved entrance to the former site which are notable and important nationally and locally.

“The infrastructure changes are required to allow for the wider redevelopment of the site.

“The council supports the principle of the redevelopment and is keen to support development which will retain and reuse the important listed buildings on the site.”
