Self-employed workers will be able to receive weekly jobseeker payments if they become unemployed from November.
The new welfare scheme will provide support to those hoping to set up or are running their own business.
The initiative will see applicants being paid up to €203 for the period of nine months for people with 260 or more self-employment PRSI contributions or six months for anyone with less, the Irish Independent reports.

Graeme McQueen, head of communications at Dublin Chamber, said the organisation was “pleased” to see the progress made for self-employed workers.
The new scheme will see self-employed workers having access to a wide range of support available to other jobseekers.
