New weekend street food market planned for Glasgow's riverside

Prepare yourselves, foodies of Glasgow, because we're serving up some news you're bound to eat right up.

For a planning application has just been submitted to the council which, if given the green light by elected members, will pave the way for a new temporary street food market on the banks of the Clyde.

The central spot which has been chosen is in a public space down at Custom House Quay Gardens, between the South Portland Street suspension bridge and Glasgow Bridge (just off Clyde Street).

Two 20-foot, side-opening shipping containers would be erected there from May - September, alongside dozens of street food trucks.

The market would be licensed and would be positioned in the area which features the tiger mural.

The pathway along the river wouldn't be closed off, with crowd barriers proposed to surround the area while wooding decking would also be in position for the period of operation.

The planning application has been submitted by Platform on the Broomielaw, and we're thinking we won't be winning any prizes by guessing this could be connected to the Platform at the Arches street food event we all know and love so well!

The new market, which would have a capacity for 500 people with seating for 100 and standing space for 400, would run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 12pm - 10pm, throughout the summer.

Take a look at the plans for yourselves here.
