A government panel of experts on the new coronavirus will suggest examples of new ways of living that the public should implement as steps to prevent the spread of the virus. These will be compiled in its draft proposal to be compiled Monday.
The panel will show how to apply these new ways according to the situation, aiming to encourage every single person to take preventive measures in the context of asymptomatic patients unwittingly spreading the virus.
Even if the number of people newly infected with the novel coronavirus declines, it is possible that the virus could still spread and a long battle is expected.
The experts concluded that it was necessary for the public to have images in mind so they can incorporate the measures into their daily life and thoroughly implement them.
The proposal calls for keeping as much as 2 meters from other people and carefully washing hands for about 30 seconds with water and soap.
The panel encourages the active use of delivery services, the use of mail-order and e-payments for shopping and sitting side by side for meals. It also recommends new work styles, such as having meetings and exchanging business cards online.
Industry organizations will also be asked to draw up guidelines to prevent the spread of infection: Companies should urge employees to wash their uniforms and clothes often and ask employees with mild coughs and other symptoms not to come to work.
In areas where the risk of infection is relatively high, the panel will include such proposals in the guidelines as putting up a sign to close the toilet lid before flushing and limiting the number of people who can enter a rest area.
