New way to donate Christmas pyjamas and help Liverpool children in need

The ECHO is asking readers to donate Christmas Eve pyjamas to Liverpool children who are homeless or otherwise in need - and there's now a new, easy way you can do it.

For the past six years, Merseyside people have shown their generous nature by leaving thousands of pairs of pyjamas at drop-off points across the region. Last year, when the ECHO first backed the campaign, an incredible 10,400 pairs were collected.

But with the country in lockdown, it is harder for the kind-hearted to buy and hand over the pyjamas.

From today, you can use the form below to make a donation to the appeal, run by mum and daughter Karen and Ashleigh Downing, from Woolton.

The money will be used to buy pyjamas, which will be given to services that directly work with children and families in need.

Maria Breslin, ECHO editor, said: "Christmas always brings home just how much some families are struggling and this year will be even more challenging.

"We're asking our readers to help the ECHO support Pyjama Party Liverpool by donating a pair, or more if you can afford it. And if you can't get to the shops or to one of the collection points then you can now make a donation online."

Government figures released last month show that 98,300 UK households were living in temporary accommodation at the end of June 2020. That's an unprecedented rise of 7% in just three months.

This time last year, homeless charity Shelter revealed a child becomes homeless in Britain every eight minutes - a figure that will have since increased.

The deadline for donations has been brought forward to December 4 this year to allow time for the pyjamas to be quarantined before being handed out to the different services. The deadline for donations made online is November 30.
