New Wanderers duo up for Cup: Robinson

Wanderers coach Carl Robinson won't be taking any chances against Broadmeadow Magic in the FFA Cup. (AAP)

Western Sydney recruits Keijiro Ogawa and Tomas Mejias are both expected to feature when the A-League Men's club begins their FFA Cup campaign on Wednesday night.

The imports, among nine new faces for Carl Robinson's team, will make the trip to face NPL Northern NSW side Broadmeadow Magic in Newcastle in the round-of-32 clash.

Japanese midfielder Ogawa joined the Wanderers on loan last month from J-League outfit Yokohama FC.

Spanish goalkeeper Mejias, a former teammate of recently appointed Wanderers captain Rhys Williams at English club Middlesbrough, has joined the side for the upcoming season on a one-year deal.

"They will be involved in the 18 that travel," Robinson told reporters on Tuesday.

"There's a good chance that you can see them in action at some point."

Despite the Wanderers being FFA Cup semi-finalists on two occasions, Robinson was nonetheless wary of his team being the victim of an upset against Magic.

The minnows will be featuring in the national rounds of the Cup for the fifth time but this will be their first clash with A-League opposition.

"They've got some talented young players full of energy, legs," Robinson said.

"It's going to be a very difficult game for us. We're under no illusions.

"We've got to make sure we concentrate on what our game is about, how we can control the game and how we can put out their strengths as well."

In other FFA Cup news, NPL Tasmania team Devonport Strikers have withdrawn from the tournament due to multiple factors including COVID-related border closures and associated restrictions.

Strikers were set to face Avondale FC in the round of 32, with the Victorian team now given a bye into the last 16.
