New Wagamama restaurant to open at Edinburgh's Fort Kinnaird this spring

A Wagamama restaurant is due to open in a few months' time at a newly-built unit at the Fort Kinnaird retail park in Edinburgh.

The Japanese restaurant chain had mentioned opening a new branch last year, but no date was confirmed.

A sign placed outside the glass-fronted unit now says it will be opening in Spring 2020.

The chain opened their first store in London in 1992, serving up Japanese-style ramen, rice and noodle dishes.

Wagamama recently launched a new vegan menu, including a fish-free tuna dish made from watermelon.

Last year the restaurant launched the world’s first vegan egg. In 2020 they are following it up with a dish called "suika".

The vegan "tuna" is made with dehydrated watermelon which is then sliced, seared and served hot.

They say tt's part of their "kaizen" philosophy, which translates as "good change."

You can find other Wagamamas in the city centre on Castle Terrace and St Andrew Square, as well as Ocean Terminal in Leith.
