New vision for £30million Balloch holiday resort revealed

Plans for a £30million development in Balloch have been significantly changed.

The amendments to the proposed resort, a joint venture between Scottish Enterprise and Flamingo Land Ltd, were lodged last week.

The original proposals included 105 holiday lodges, an aparthotel, brewery, monorail and an indoor leisure and waterpark centre at West Riverside and Woodbank House.

However, the resort, named Lomond Banks, has now been amended with changes including:

• Conversion and extension of Woodbank House to form 15 residential flats;

• Reducing the number of proposed houses within the grounds of Woodbank House from 20 to six;

• Increasing the number of proposed lodges/bothies within the grounds of Woodbank House from 28 to 50;

• Changing the use of the proposed boathouse on the promontory at Drumkinnon from self-catering to storage/water based recreation;

• Changing to the extent of development at the Pierhead.

The project, which has an anticipated completion date of 2024, expects to bring as many as 80 full time jobs, 50 part-time jobs and to 70 seasonal posts to the area.

Andy Miller, director at Lomond Banks, said they were “committed to seeing Balloch become the true gateway to Loch Lomond”.

He commented: “Our plans for West Riverside and Woodbank House offer an opportunity for a unique leisure based development and with Lomond Banks, Scotland will have a quality destination that respects and compliments the surrounding area.”

A statement from the national park said the application had been ‘paused’ since August as more information had been requested from the applicants

Public comments, however were still being received and recorded.

It added: “We have now received the information requested from the applicant. While considering the request for the additional information the national park authority needed, the applicants have also amended elements of their original proposals.

“This is not a new application. The application description has been updated, however the new information forms part of the original application.

“We are now in the process of reconsultation with the relevant statutory consultees and anyone who has already submitted a representation to the application has been informed.”

Once all representations and information from the applicant has been fully considered, the planning case officer will make a recommendation to board members to either approve or refuse the application.

More than 1100 people have objected to the plans, with 50 comments in support.
