New video reveals Derrick Rose’s emotional reaction to 2016 Bulls trade

Chicago native Derrick Rose won a league MVP award for his hometown team in 2011, but knee injuries derailed his career the following season, and his inability to stay on the court eventually led the Bulls to cash in on his trade value while he was healthy.

On June 23rd, 2016, a documentary crew was interviewing Rose in Los Angeles when he received the call from agent BJ Armstrong that he was headed to New York. Rose’s phone rang just as he was addressing trade rumors, telling the camera that being in Chicago is “the only thing” he could think about.

Rose admitted that he was “so nervous” as he called back his agent, and he broke down and wept when Armstrong told him that he was headed to New York.

Rose only played a single season for the Knicks, and had his year cut short by a torn meniscus .
