New Victoria Hospital's Minor Injuries Unit closes amid falling user numbers

The New Victoria Hospital's Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) has been closed as user numbers fall in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

People must now go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital MIU after the New Victoria Hospital saw a fall in the number of people using the service.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital MIU will operate from 9am to 7pm.

A statement from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde reads: "In response to the current situation, we have taken the decision to close the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at the New Victoria Hospital.

"This is due to a significant reduction in the number of people using the service. Patients should instead attend the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital MIU.

"This will operate from 9am – 7pm and you will be seen and treated by a member of the team there.

"If you attend outwith these times and it is deemed safe to do so, after a brief nurse assessment, you may be asked to return the next day for formal assessment and treatment. We will take into account that you attended the night before. However, this may not always be possible if the unit is very busy.

"Please return to the Emergency Department earlier if you feel numbness or extreme cold in the affected limb, or you feel a deterioration of symptoms that cannot wait until the morning."
