New venue opening at Duke Street's Scandinavian Hotel with upside down rooms, mirror maze & more

Duke's Street's former Scandinavian Hotel is set to welcome a completely new type of venue which will sit next to the student accommodation which opened back in 2015.

For more than three decades, the former hotel was left derelict until work started back in 2013 with £9m invested to reopen the site and the warehouse next to it, as student accomodation.

And now, five years after the student flats were opened by a developers Downing, a leisure space is set to open promising a "medley of interactive experiences and brain-stimulating workouts, puzzling challenges and oddball photo opportunities".

Aimed at all ages, Quirky Quarter is opening this week and will have a mirror maze, upside down rooms, 3D illustrations and optical illusions.

It will be situated next to Liverpool’s Imperial Arch.

John Clegg, head of property management at Downing, said: “We’re very excited to be welcoming the Quirky Quarter team to The Arch. They bring with them a unique vision and eye for design that is unlike any other attraction on offer in the city.

“What is particularly special about this concept is that it appeals to visitors of all ages, aiming to bring people together by encouraging them to open up their minds and have fun.

"Quirky Quarter’s arrival marks the final part of our journey in the regeneration of The Arch, returning the building back to its former glory as a central attraction for tourists and Liverpool natives alike.

"We’re looking forward to working closely with the Quirky Quarter team and supporting them on this exciting journey.”
