New urban axe-throwing venue to open in Newcastle city centre

A new entertainment venue set to open in Newcastle this week is sure to help people let off some steam.

The city's second urban axe-throwing facility will launch at 15-17 Princess Square on Friday, December 16, offering six axe-throwing lanes.

Operator Game of Throwing, which already has a base in The Gate, said its newest venue is part of its plans for a large indoor entertainment centre at the site which will contain escape game rooms and virtual reality experiences.

The urban axe-throwing experience in Newcastle sees small groups of people throw an axe 12ft away from a target board, under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor. Although it sounds like a daring experience, Game of Throwing has stressed that axes are only ever thrown down empty, enclosed lanes, under expert supervision.

And bosses say that the unique experience has been a hit with corporate team-building events as well as groups of friends.

Daniel Hill, the founder of Game of Throwing, said: “Newcastle has been one of our most popular locations, so we’re thrilled to be opening another large venue in the city.

“This is a fun, safe, indoor experience that many people won’t have tried before, and we can’t wait to throw open the doors in Princess Square.”

As part of its commitment to safety, Game of Throwing has a policy of no alcohol consumption for participants. Players must be aged 10 and over and groups with 10 to 16-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult.
