Tadashi Yanai, the chair, president and CEO of Fast Retailing and Uniqlo, sat down with The Yomiuri Shimbun to talk about the new flagship store, Uniqlo Tokyo.
I wanted to create a flagship store that gives global representation and would not be embarrassing no matter where we put it. We put together all of our know-how to lead us here, and the store amply expresses where we plan on going from here.
I kept thinking about what ultimate casual wear could mean, and so we are showing a lot of LifeWear in the new store.
We summoned a Swiss architect design team for the store. Inside, you can see the concrete framework and witness the beauty of construction. Thanks to the atrium, visitors can experience excitement wondering what the upper floors have to offer.
Ginza is a main street that represents Tokyo. With both traditional Japanese stores and foreign brands mingling together on the street, the area is somewhere you absolutely want to visit when you come to Tokyo. The street is akin to New York City's Fifth Avenue or Paris' Place de l'Opera. This shop marks the second flagship store around Ginza, but there was more than enough demand to warrant a second store.
The route connecting Tokyo Station to Yurakucho and then on to Ginza brilliantly shows off the area. I hope the flagship store will act as a trigger for an explosive economic growth.
