New twist as Cardiff City, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest face battle with two La Liga sides for midfield star - reports

Cardiff City face a battle with two La Liga sides to sign Bordeaux midfielder Younousse Sankhare, according to reports.

Reports in France suggest Spanish sides Alaves and Leganes have made late moves for the player, who has also been linked with Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United.

The Bluebirds are yet to make an offer for the 29-year-old who is valued at £4.5m but have been credited with interest for some weeks after making an enquiry.

Sankhare looks set to leave Bordeaux this summer after being left out of the club's pre-season tour by boss Paul Sousa.

He has won seven caps for Senegal, but has also represented France at under-19 and under-21 level.

Having had spells with French clubs PSG, Dijon, Guingamp and Lille, he joined Bordeaux where he helped the club reach the Europa League.

Cardiff have already made four signings this summer, with Aden Flint joining Will Vaulks, Joe Day and Curtis Nelson at the club last week.

The Bluebirds also said goodbye to Bruno Manga and Kenneth Zohore on Friday on a busy day of transfer business.
