New Troon railway station plans to be unveiled one year on from devastating blaze

Plans for a new Troon train station are to be unveiled to residents more than a year on from a devastating fire.

A community drop-in event at the town's Walker Hall on Wednesday, August 24 will see early proposals presented by Network Rail.

Three concepts are set to be displayed to the public with each design likely to take in the historic look and feel of the remaining platform whilst adding modern interpretations.

The revamp will replace the current ghost platform at the iconic Victorian era station which was left gutted after being ravaged in a blaze on July 17 last year.

The entire front of platform one had to be flattened following the fire which also destroyed two businesses.

Residents will be able to view plans at the community engagement event and provide feedback.

Jo Noble, Network Rail sponsor for the redevelopment of the station, said: “This is the first opportunity we have had to engage with the community in Troon and to bring forward initial proposals for the redevelopment of the platform station building destroyed by last year’s fire.

“We hope that people come along to see the initial proposals and to offer their views and ask any questions they may have about the work to reinstate the station building.

"We look forward to meeting everyone at the community drop-in on August 24."

The drop-in will run between 4pm and 7pm.
