New train from Newcastle to Manchester Airport means passengers can catch early flights

A new railway service from Newcastle to Manchester Airport means passengers can take a night train from the North East to catch early morning flights from the North West.

The Transpennine Express train, which runs from Monday to Saturday, opens up the possibility of getting public transport direct to Manchester Airport for flights in the early hours. Departing from Newcastle Central at 12.08am, it calls at Durham at 12.21am, reaching Darlington at 12.40am, York at 1.36am and Leeds at 2.18am. The train then calls at Manchester Piccadilly, before terminating at Manchester Airport at 3.51am on Saturdays and 3.59am on weekdays. The service does not run on Sundays.

As well as offering a way of getting to Manchester for short haul and long haul flights, the service allows passengers to get home from nights out in Newcastle, too, as it leaves Central Station shortly after midnight.

Train tickets price to rise by more than £150 as commuters 'ripped off' again

The new services forms part of a new Transpennine timetable, which launched on Sunday.

Transennine says the route offers 'better opportunities for customers to get to Manchester Airport'.

The operator has also introduced a new later service from Edinburgh Waverley to Newcastle. The train leaves Edinburgh at 10.15pm, calling at Dunbar, Berwick, Alnmouth and Morpeth, before arriving in Newcastle at 12.27am.
