New traffic measures begin as work continues on £40 million bypass

Temporary traffic lights have been installed at a junction on Mapperley Plains as work continues on the Gedling Access Road development.

The new road, which is part of a £40 million scheme, is being introduced by Nottinghamshire County Council to ease traffic issues through Gedling village and serve the new Chase Farm housing development.

The 3.8km single carriageway has been decades in the making and will link the A612 Trent Valley Road and Nottingham Road to Mapperley Plains - running parallel with the A6211 Arnold Lane.

Work is now taking place near the junction wih Chartwell Grove to allow service crossings to be installed on the road - the roadworks began on Tuesday, March 23.

Nottinghamshire County Council says the signals will be manually controlled from 7am until 7pm and will be removed on Friday, March 26, before being reinstalled on Monday, March 29. This is to minimise disruption over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We would like apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your continued patience and cooperation while we carry out construction works in your area.”

Since works began in January 2020, a new junction at Burton Road has been constructed and an embankment at Mapperley Plains has been created using earth excavated from Lambley Lane.

The coming months will also see three new roundabouts start to take shape along with top soil and Tarmacking works before the road opens to traffic in September.
