A new scheme will be promoted to replace the previous proposal to stop vehicles from using a section of Silvertonhill Avenue.
Traffic calming and further parking restrictions are instead proposed for Chestnut Crescent and Abercorn Drive in Hamilton.
This follows a large public consultation exercise before Christmas from which the feedback has now been considered.
At this time, the main focus of the council’s work continues to be responding to the coronavirus crisis.
Following the consultation, it is clear residents of Chestnut Crescent and Abercorn Drive are concerned about the volume and speed of traffic in this area and wish something to be done.
However, the overriding comments and responses received also highlight the concerns from the residents of the wider Silvertonhill area who did not support the proposal to prohibit the movement of vehicles.
Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “We have listened to those who took the time to take part in the survey and we thank them for their feedback.
“Based on the comments received and the assessment of survey data it is considered that there is a case for change in this area. Therefore, in order to resolve the issues, it is proposed to implement a traffic calming scheme on Chestnut Crescent and Abercorn Drive coupled with new/extended waiting restrictions on these roads.
“This proposal will allow the route to remain open to all traffic while ensuring that those drivers using the route do so at a speed more appropriate to a residential area.”
The council will now progress with developing details of a scheme.
The promotion of waiting restrictions will require a Traffic Regulation Order to be promoted which will also provide a further consultation opportunity.
It is expected that the scheme will be designed shortly, the order promoted and consulted upon over the summer months with the project potentially completed by the end of this year.
