New Tottenham stadium update: Spurs to invite 6,000 fans for tour of new home in December

Tottenham have confirmed a first test event at their new stadium will go ahead on December 16 in a huge step towards opening their new home.

Spurs will give 6,000 fans tours of the South Stand and podium areas during a four-hour event.

It will be the first test event involving fans, coming a day after Spurs host Burnley at Wembley in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino said: “It makes me feel very, very happy. It makes me feel we are close to compete there. It’s an important thing for the fans to show our new home and it makes me very, very happy.”

The new stadium needs to pass two tests events to get the safety licence required to open, though the fan tours are not understood to count towards that quota.

Ahead of September's postponed opening, Spurs were due to host an Under-23s game and a legends game against Bayern Munich.

Should the tour event be a success, further events growing larger in scale should follow as the club work towards a much-delayed opening.

Pochettino recently highlighted February for the grand opening and last week took another look at the ground with his staff.

"We were there, checking the facilities, the changing rooms and everything, We are so excited, we cannot wait to move there," said Pochettino.

"We understand that it is a fantastic project for the future of the club that will be forever. To wait maybe one or two months more, we need to have patience."
