New Tottenham stadium: Spurs confirm contingency plan to stay at Wembley for rest of season

Tottenham have confirmed a contingency plan is in place with Wembley to host home games for the remainder of the season.

Spurs had planned to move into their new stadium before the turn of the year only for construction delays postpone the move for the third time in three months.

The club are still aiming to move into their new home before the end of the current campaign, insisting this agreement remains only in light of possible future delays.

A statement reads: "As a contingency measure to ensure we can stage our matches whilst we await certainty on the exact opening date of our new stadium, the Club has reached agreement with WNSL to host any additional home games that we may have to play at Wembley Stadium."

It adds: "As announced previously, we shall look to provide a further update on stadium progress in early December."

Spurs must complete two successful test events at the ground before earning a safety certificate from the Football Association.

New photographs of the pitch have revealed markings on the recently laid turf.

Toby Alderweireld recently admitted the delays have had an impact on the squad, telling reporters: "We never used Wembley as an excuse and we will not do that now. But it has affected us."
