New Tottenham signing Steven Bergwijn confirms transfer as he talks up Jose Mourinho

New Tottenham signing Steven Bergwijn has revealed he has always admired new manager Jose Mourinho and says his physical approach will suit English football.

Spurs are set to announce Bergwijn's arrival on a long-term contract from PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday after the winger, 22, completed a medical ahead of a €30million (£27m) plus €2m (£1.7m) transfer.

Interest in Bergwijn pre-dates Mourinho's appointment in November but Portuguese has given his approval to the signing of the Netherlands international.

"I have always looked up to a top coach like Mourinho and now I'm going to play for him," Bergwijn told Dutch daily De Telegraaf at Hotspur Way, Tottenham's Enfield training base.

"It’s great to be here. Just look at the facilities around us. When I play Fifa on the PlayStation, I almost always choose a team from the Premier League. I look forward to playing in that great atmosphere."

A speedy and physical winger, who likes to play on the left and cut inside on his favoured right foot, Bergwijn believes he will suit the Premier League but told fans it may take time for him to get up to speed.

"Of course it will take some getting used to, but it will all be alright," he continued. "I think that my physical match is also good in the Premier League.

"I believe in myself and I really know that I am not there yet. Of course I have played many matches in the Eredivisie. England is a bit different, but I know what I can do."
