New toilets being built at a park in Bristol - and will be open in April

New toilets at a Bristol park are being built.

Bristol City Council closed all of the city's on-street loos in January 2018 to save £440,000 a year.

However, the council announced in September last year two parks in the city would be getting new toilets.

The new public conveniences at Eastville Park are currently being installed, with the council originally saying park users will have to hang on until April for the new loos.

Toilets have also opened at St George's Park.

A Bristol City Council spokesman said: “The new toilets in Eastville Park will be located adjacent to the car park near the children’s play area.

"Once completed, there will be two free to use public toilets available; one accessible toilet and one standard unisex.

"Weather permitting, the concrete base will be poured this week and will need some time to dry out before the toilets can be fitted and fully connected.”

St George's Park and Eastville Park were among four city parks which lost their local public conveniences.

Residents caught short in St George’s Park have been able to relieve themselves in brand new facilities next to the bowling green from September last year.

The toilets in St George's Park are open from 8am to 6pm, when they lock automatically.

The council is also planning to upgrade the toilets in St Andrew’s Park and Victoria Park.

Ten of Bristol’s main parks already have public toilets: the Downs, Redcatch Park, Canford Park, Ashton Court Estate, Blaise Estate, St Andrew’s Park, Brandon Hill Park, Snuff Mills, Oldbury Court Estate and Victoria Park.
